Murder charges filed vs gunmen of retired municipal administrator in Leyte
TACLOBAN CITY – Police have filed charges against the suspects in the ambush-slay of retired San Isidro, Leyte municipal administrator Juanita Veloso last Dec. 21.
The Leyte Provincial Police Office filed murder and attempted murder cases against the suspects identified by the Special Investigation Task Group (STIG) JB Veloso as James Damayo and Archie Cosinillo of Tabango and two “John Does.”
Col. Edwin Balles, Leyte police chief, said the charges were filed before the Leyte provincial prosecutor on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Balles lauded the SITG JB Veloso and the Criminal Investigation Team for identifying the suspects. "I commend the efforts and dedication of our police operatives in making an effective case-build up against the suspects," he said.
Juanita, 77, a sister of San Isidro Mayor Remedio Veloso, was gunned down on the national highway in Barangay Libongao, Kananga, Leyte while on her way home with two others to Villaba, Leyte from Ormoc City on board a pickup truck. Her companions were unharmed.
