
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Office of the City Agriculturist on Tuesday, Jan. 17, reported that crops worth P106.4 million were destroyed due to flood caused by strong rain here on Jan. 11.
It said 2,791.79 hectares of farm lands were affected by bad weather. Seaweed farmers were reported to be the hardest hit with the destruction of 1,411.40 hectares of seaweed farms.
These farms were located in Barangays Mercedes, Talabaan, Taluksangay, Dita, Buenavista, Muti, Curuan, Tictapul, Licomo, Tumitus, and Taguiti. Total damage to seaweeds amounted to P16.8 million.
Also damaged were 816.25 hectares of fish ponds, 333.30 hectares of rice fields, and 230.265 hectares of corn fields.
