Magnitude 4.7 quake hits Camarines Norte — Phivolcs

A 4.7-magnitude earthquake hit Camarines Norte on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 18, based on the earthquake information issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the quake struck 13 kilometers southeast of Tinaga Island, Vinzons, Camarines Norte around 1 p.m.

Its instruments recorded the tremor at Intensity III in Mercedes, Camarines Norte; Intensity II in Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte and Polillo, Quezon; and Intensity I in Daet, Camarines Norte and Ragay, Camarines Sur.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
