Here’s the story behind Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel’s evening gown

For the longest time, fashion has been a big part of beauty pageants, and it is best shown during the evening gown competition. A testament to that can be seen at the 71st Miss Universe pageant. One of our top favorites is the long gown worn by Miss USA, and eventual Miss Universe 2022, R’Bonney Gabriel.

Bringing an edge to the ultra-glamorous segment, the Houston-based Filipino-American beauty donned an evening gown crafted by Filipino designer Rian Fernandez. The black gown is an image of competence and sophistication, according to the designer. It features gunmetal accents to represent the 28-year-old’s strength and remarkable resilience.

R’Bonney is a fashion designer and believes that fashion can be a force for good, especially, when it comes to becoming a transformational leader.

“In my industry, I’m cutting down on pollution through recycled materials when I make my clothing. I teach sewing classes to women that have survived human trafficking and domestic violence,” R’Bonney said during the final question portion. “I say that because it is so important to invest in others, invest in our community, and use your unique talent to make a difference. We all have something special. And when we plant those seeds [in] other people in our life, we transform them and we use that as a vehicle for change.”
