164 Army troops finish Scout Ranger training

The Philippine Army (PA) disclosed that 164 of its personnel have finished their training to become elite Scout Rangers.

The troops graduated from the Scout Ranger Course (SRC) Class 218-22 at Camp Tecson in San Miguel, Bulacan on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The troops received the Scout Ranger Qualification Badge or the “Tabak” Badge during their graduation rites as they were welcomed by the First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR) after the 10-month long training.

“When you go back to the field, prove the skill, stamina and spirit of a Scout Ranger and deliver the combat excellence and discipline you gained during your training,” said 1001st Infantry brigade commander, Brig. Gen. Jesus P. Durante III, who served as the guest of honor and speaker during the graduation rites.

Known for their moniker “Musang,” the Army’s Scout Rangers are famous for their grit and tenacity on the battlefield.

“The Musangs have never wavered in leading the way and delivering decisive results in combat operations against enemies of the state,” Trinidad said.

Musangs specialize in anti-guerilla jungle warfare, raiding operations, counter-terrorism, and hostage rescues.

Among the notable engagements by the Musangs include the Hukbalahap rebellion in the 1940s, the ongoing communist insurgency, the Operation Enduring Freedom – Philippines in the early 2000s which targeted Jihadist terrorist groups, the 2013 Zamboanga siege, and the 2017 Marawi crisis.
