A Ukrainian diplomat is hoping to arrange a phone call between President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after the former expressed willingness in conducting a dialogue.
Denys Mykhailiuk, Charge d’Affaires of the Ukrainian Embassy in Malaysia, said the Ukrainian government is "glad and very thankful" to hear that Marcos wants a conversation with Zelenskyy, "especially during this time of war." Mykhailiuk said the phone call will aim to "to discuss the Ukrainian 10-point peace plan, which can serve as a framework for peace in the world even after the war." "On our end, we will make all necessary efforts to facilitate these important talks," he added in a statement sent to Manila Bulletin on Tuesday.
Mykhailiuk also said Ukraine is "delighted to hear that the Philippines support any efforts towards peace—to stop war and killings."
He said Ukraine hopes that this is an indication of the Republic of the Philippines' support in the global peace negotiations, "especially those which will take place in the United Nations General Assembly next month."
En route to Switzerland for the World Economic Forum over the weekend, Marcos told reporters he did not snub the Ukrainian government's request for a phone talk between him and Zelenskyy.
His statement came after Mykhailiuk disclosed that Ukraine has been reaching out to the Philippine government for such matter but no one has responded to them yet since June 2022.
