SIM registration hits 21 million

The Department of Information and Technology (DICT) reported that SIM registration has been completed for 21,128,925 SIMs as of Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, 11:59 PM.

Based on records provided by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the total number is 12.5 percent of the 168,977,773 million subscribers nationwide.

Smart Communications Inc. reported a total of 10,386,685 SIMs registered, which is 15.28 percent of Smart’s 67,995,734 subscribers.

Globe Telecom Inc. recorded 8,963,101 registered — 10.2 percent of its 87,873,936 subscribers.

Meanwhile, DITO Telecommunity Corp. reported a total of 1,779,139 SIMs registered or 13.57 percent of its 13,108,103 subscribers.

Local carriers conducted SIM Registration in the coastal community of Brgy. Sapang-Kawayan, in the Municipality of Masantol, Pampanga on January 7, 2023 to pinpoint difficulties that may arise for the rollout of the process in remote areas, says DICT Spokesperson and Undersecretary Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo.

“The DICT is working with agencies and telcos for the implementation of SIM Registration in the country’s remote areas," she reiterated.

The first SIM Registration rollout in the remote area of Masantol, Pampanga provided valuable insights and the public can expect that SIM Registration will reach the country’s far-flung areas, she stated.
