House panel OKs measure feting actress Dolly de Leon

The House Committee on Creative Industry and Performing Arts approved on Tuesday, Jan. 17 a proposed measure that seeks to recognize United States (US)-based Filipino actress Dolly de Leon.

De Leon, 55, recently made waves with her nomination in the Golden Globe Awards in the Best Supporting Actress category for her portrayal of a toilet manager in the movie, "Triangle of Sadness".

It is for this reason that ParaÃ±aque City 1st district Rep. Edwin Olivarez penned and filed House Resolution (HR) No.653, which seeks to fete De Leon for her achievement as the first Filipino to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award.

Earlier, De Leon won the Best Supporting Performer award in the Los Angeles Film and Critics Association (LAFCA) for the same role.

De Leon ultimately lost the Golden Globe to Angela Bassett, who played Queen Ramonda in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever". Still, the Filipina's nomination for a Golden Globe trophy remains a big deal.

Pangasinan 4th district Rep. Christopher de Venecia, chairman of the creatives industry panel, carried the approval of HR No.653 during a panel hearing Tuesday.

Meanwhile, two other resolutions recognizing two more Filipino "creatives" were approved during the hearing.

First was HR No.636, which hails Cecile Guidote-Alvarez as the sole Filipino and Southeast Asian awardee in the "Remake A World Gala" by La MaMa in New York, also in the US. De Venecia filed the measure.

Second was HR No.609, filed by Negros Oriental 1st district Rep. Jocelyn Sy Limkaichong. It seeks to fete Rosales Casocot for winning the Short Story Category of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature.
