Abu signs 5-year housing project deal for PCG personnel

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will build housing units for its personnel within the next five years which is seen to benefit many coast guardians.

To realize the project, Adm. Artemio Abu, PCG Commandant, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Reynaldo Antonio Lorenzana, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NEDSteel Construction and Development Corporation (NEDSteel), at the PCG National Headquarters in Port Area, Manila on Monday, Jan. 16.

Under the MOA, Abu said that the PCG will conduct an internal survey “to identify potential locations for housing sites and determine the number of potential housing applicants for each location.”

Meanwhile, the construction firm will be responsible for the purchase of the approved housing units.

“It shall inform the PCG if there are complications with the purchase and if alternative housing units need to be considered,” the PCG said.

The PCG noted that the construction firm is also expected to coordinate with government financing institutions such as the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG) “for the proper and timely processing of loan applications of the PCG’s qualified personnel.”

“If necessary, the PCG shall also make itself available for the servicing of such loans by allowing, with the consent of the qualified personnel, deductions from their salaries to pay off their interest payments and amortizations to be remitted to the pertinent financial institution,” the PCG said.
