TACLOBAN CITY – At least six people were injured due to fallen debris in a magnitude-5.1 earthquake in Leyte, Leyte on Sunday night, Jan. 15.
Authorities identified the injured as Leah Delima, 36; Flora Mae Lugo, 22; Maria Elena Quir, 64; Luciano Quir, 64, and a seven and 12-year-old girl.
Some houses and the church sustained minor structural damage in the earthquake.
The epicenter of the earthquake at 8:28 p.m. was traced in the municipality.
It was felt at Intensity III in the municipalities of Alangalang, Carigara, Babatngon, and Barugo, and the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc.
Leyte Mayor Arnold James Ysidoro suspended classes and work to facilitate inspection and assessment of damage in the municipality.
Ysidoro created five teams comprised of the PNP, BFP, MDRRMO, RHU, MSWDO, other department heads, and employees to go around barangays for a Rapid Damage Assessment and Need Analysis.
