A total of 588 former users of illegal drugs completed rehabilitation since July, said the local government of Caloocan City on Sunday, Jan. 15.
The rehabilitation program was established by the Community Assisted Rehabilitation and Research Outpatient Treatment and Training System (CARROTS) under the Caloocan Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CADAO), which aims to provide treatment and care services to former illegal drug users.
Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan Along applauded the organizations and the individuals who successfully finished their rehabilitation program.
"Patunay po ito na mayroong pangalawang pagkakataon, at sa panibagong buhay na naghihintay sa inyo, hangad po namin na gawin niyo po itong matiwasay at makabuluhan (This is the proof that there is a second chance, and in the new life that awaits you, we wish you to make it safe and meaningful)" he added.
CADAO Officer-in-charge (OIC) Wilmilson Amoyo said they will continue to help the former users recover from the long-term abuse of illegal drugs and reintegrate them into the community.
We will do everything we can to encourage the rest of people who use illegal drugs (PWUDs) in the city to stop. Our city government is ready to help you through our programs. In addition to our rehabilitation program, we also cultivate knowledge and skills of our locals, so that when they return to communities, they are ready and able to earn profit),” OIC Amoyo said.
Meanwhile, the mayor said more batches will undergo the rehabilitation program this year.
This year a new batch will undergo our programs and services, so that we can help them have good futures),” Malapitan stated.
We will not stop as long as there are PWDs. We will work harder to improve our services now and in the years to come)," the mayor added.
The city government said CADAO and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also conducts surprise drug testing among Caloocan City Jail staffs under the program Buhay Ingatan, Droga'y Ayawan (BIDA).
It added that it continues to hold counseling and seminars against illegal drug use, especially in vulnerable communities in the city.
