The low pressure area (LPA) east of the country may continue to bring scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms over most of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Jan. 15.

PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the LPA still has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression.

Nonetheless, it may bring significant rains over most of the country.

As of 3 a.m., Sunday, the LPA was last spotted at a distance of 80 kilometers (km) northeast of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte or 125 km east of Maasin City, Southern Leyte.

The weather disturbance may bring scattered to widespread light to intense rains and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Quezon province.

Scattered light to heavy rains may also prevail over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Aurora, Mindanao, and the rest of Visayas.

PAGASA continues to warn against possible floods or landslides in these areas.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms may prevail over the rest of Luzon.

The public is also advised to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
