Faithful invited to join holy masses in honor of Santo Niño

The Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Manila Cathedral) in Intramuros, Manila will offer holy masses on Sunday, Jan. 15, in celebration of the feast of the Santo Niño.

The faithful are enjoined to attend the masses which will be celebrated at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., and at 6 p.m. Devotees are encouraged to offer prayers and light candles before the image of the Santo Niño de Tondo at the Manila Cathedral.

“The image of the Santo Niño de Tondo, a gift from the Archdiocesan Shrine of Santo Niño in Tondo, is now enshrined at the Cathedral where you can offer your prayers and votive candles,” the Manila Cathedral said.

Meanwhile, pre-pandemic activities will be held in many parts of the country in celebration of the feast of the Child Jesus on Sunday, Jan. 15 including grand processions, motorcades, and street dancing.

The Sinulog will be held in Cebu once again after a two-year break as well as the Ati-atihan Festival in Aklan.

In Metro Manila, the center of celebrations will be at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Santo Niño de Tondo in Manila where 33 holy masses will be offered. The Lakbayaw Festival will be held once again in Tondo. In Pandacan, the Buling-Buling Festival in honor of Santo Nino will also be held this year.

The feast of the Santo Niño is a much-anticipated event in the country. It is traditionally celebrated on the third Sunday of January which is the Month of the Holy Child.
