Marcos says Xi is 'strong, stabilizing leader'

Chinese President Xi Jinping will bring stability not only to China but also to the rest of the region, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said.

In a recent interview with China's state-run news channel CGTN, Marcos said it was "welcome news" for the Philippines to learn that Xi was re-elected as party leader of Chinese Communist Party, allowing him to serve a third-term as China's president.

Marcos made the remark as he said Xi was clearly a "very strong, stabilizing leader."

"That's why I think there is much that we can do working together in the future," he added.

His state visit to China has resulted in benefits to the Filipino people, according to Marcos. This was because the agreements that were signed between China and the Philippines were based on the key priorities of the latter for its development and economic transformation.

"So, this is I think something I believe we will be able to strengthen and to make even more rapid in terms of the progress," he said.

Agriculture is among the sectors in which China has good experiences to share, Marcos said. Extending assistance in this field will address issues of food security amid the Ukraine-Russia conflict and other factors, he added.

"All of these are extremely important, at this point, for all countries," he added.
