Fire leaves more than 90 families homeless in Valenzuela


More than 90 families were homeless in a fire that reached third alarm at Bitik Medina Extension, General T. De Leon, Valenzuela City on Saturday, Jan. 14.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the first alarm was declared at 12:16 p.m.

The blaze was placed under control at 1:15 p.m. and was extinguished at 1:50 p.m.

BFP said an estimated amount of P200,000 in property was damaged in the incident.

The authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, the city government said the affected families registered by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) temporarily sheltered at Bitik Elementary School.

Valenzuela City Weslie "Wes" Gatchalian visited the affected families on the same day.

Hot meals, sanitation kits, mats, and blankets were already distributed to the victims.

The mayor said the local government already deployed mobile kitchens, medical stations, showers, and toilets on the evacuation site.

The city's veterinary office also set up a temporary shelter for the pets of the affected families to supply them with food and water.

"Tinitiyak po ng pamahalaang lungsod na tutulungan ang lahat ng apektado sa abot ng aming makakaya (The city government assures to help all affected families to the best of our ability" Gatchalian said.
