The Caloocan City, through the City Social Welfare Development Department (CSWDD), conducted a reach-out operation for street dwellers in North Caloocan on Friday, Jan. 13.

CSWDD deployed social workers to provide medical assistance, counseling, and hot meals to 34 individuals in Barangays 170, 174, 175, 177, 178, and 188 in the city.

The street dwellers were also escorted to the city-operated shelters.

Minor girls were placed in the City Social Development Center and minor boys were sent to Tahanang Mapagpala and Bahay Pag-Asa in Caloocan City.

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan led the reach-out operations. He applauded CSWDD for its efforts to rescue the lives of street dwellers from harm and illegal drugs.

“Nagpapasalamat po tayo sa CSWDD sa pagtugon at pagkalinga sa ating mga kababayan at pagbibigay pagkakataon na mailayo sila sa kapahamakan dulot ng paninirahan sa kalsada at ilegal na droga (We are grateful to CSWDD for responding and caring for our locals and taking them away from street harm and illegal drugs),” he said.

“Asahan niyong tuloy-tuloy ang ating pagsisikap na yakapin ang kayang yakapin, sa abot ng ating makakaya, walang maiiwan sa ating pagseserbisyo sa ating mga kababayan (Expect our continuous efforts, to the best of our ability, nothing will be left behind in our community services),” Malapitan added.

According to CSWDD Officer-in-charge Roberto Quizon, the department conducted the reach-out operations to align with the city mayor's directive to help the vulnerable sectors, including the homeless and child laborers.

“Inatasan po tayo sa umpisa pa lang ng termino ni Mayor Along na kalingain ang higit na nangangailangan, lalo na ang gabayan ang mga kabataan at tulungan ang mga street dwellers sa ating lungsod (We were assigned by Mayor Along to take care of the vulnerable individuals, guide the youth and help the street dwellers in our city),” Quizon stated.
