Police catch three men in act of stealing cable wires in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY -- Police arrested three persons, including two relatives who were caught in the act stealing P105,000 worth of cable wires along Lacson Street, Barangay 9 here on Thursday, Jan. 12.

Police identified the suspects as Charlie Caldea, 28, Christopher Uy, 37, a fish vendor, and his relative Elias Grajo, 21, a tricycle driver, all residents of Barangay Mandalagan here.

Capt. Jonito Pastrana, head of Police Station 2, said that policemen were conducting a visibility patrol when they spotted the three suspects allegedly cutting the copper wires of a telecommunications firm.

Police also confiscated from them a saw, and a tricycle. Theft charges were already filed against the suspects.

Pastrana said they are verifying with other police stations here for other offenses these persons may have also committed.

Last year, the Bacolod City police formed ‘Oplan Bantay Kable’ to focus on tracking individuals who may have the intention to steal cables.

The police intensified their campaign after some telecommunications firms here have reached out to the authorities because of a series of theft incidents, wherein cable wires were being cut and sold to junk shops.
