BACOLOD CITY -- A foreign national was found dead on Thursday, Jan. 12, three days after he was reported missing, in Barangay Sampinit, Bago City, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the foreign national as Laszlo Matyas, 63, of England.
Senior Master Sgt. Job Ogares, chief investigator of Bago City Police Station, said Matyas’s 50-year-old live-in partner reported to the police that he failed to go home on Jan. 9.
Ogares said that according to some residents, Matyas was last seen alive on Monday afternoon, walking alone toward the shoreline of Barangay Sampinit, where he was residing with his live-in partner.
On Jan. 12, a resident found his body at the mangrove area of the said village, but police have not seen any signs of foul play.
Ogares said it was the victim’s routine to walk at the shoreline, as their residence is near the sea.
He said that the victim might have died due to a heart illness, as he was having medication according to his partner.
Ogares said the police will still wait for the result of the postmortem examination to determine the cause of his death and to rule out a possible foul play.
He said the victim arrived in the province in October, 2022 after knowing his live-in partner via a dating app.
