Elderly arrested for shooting dog, illegal possession of firearm in Nueva Vizcaya

NUEVA VIZCAYA – A 69-year old man was arrested for shooting a dog at Purok Bergonia, Brgy. Bintawan Sur, Villaverde on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Personnel of Villaverde Police responded to a commotion triggered by a shooting incident involving an elderly who was positively identified by a couple as the one who shot their dog.

When the police arrived at the scene, the dog owner Rico Duragos, 57, and his live-in partner Marilou were carrying their dog with a gunshot wound at the neck after it was shot in their compound.

The couple told the police they personally saw the suspect identified as Marlowe Crisostomo from the distance as he shot their dog twice using a long firearm.

When the policemen proceeded to the suspect’s house, the suspect denied he shot the dog.

Minutes later, the police investigators saw and recovered the long firearm placed beside a mango tree near the suspect’s house.

The long firearm was identified as a converted Squires Bingham Model caliber .22.

The suspect together with the recovered firearm was brought to the Philippine National Police station.

He was already charged at the provincial prosecutor’s office for Violation of animal cruelty (R.A. 8485) and illegal possession of firearms (R.A 10591), according to Staff Sergeant Paul John Aquino, investigator on the case.

"Inalalayan pang mabuti ng mga may ari ng aso na pakainin ito para mabuhay. Nakabaon pa sa panga ng aso ang bala na tumama dito," police told Manila Bulletin.
