Close to 28,000 dogs, cats get anti-rabies shots in Caloocan

A total of 27,992 dogs and cats in Caloocan City have been given free anti-rabies shots through the community-based vaccination program, said Caloocan City Veterinary Department (CVD) in its accomplishment report on Friday, Jan. 13.

The community-based vaccination is a program initiated by the local government and the city veterinarian association, CVD, to ensure protection of pet owners and the general public against rabies from animal scratches and bites.

"Kabuuang 27,992 na aso at pusa ang nabigyan ng libreng anti-rabies vaccine upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng iba pang hayop o tao na kanilang makakasalamuha (A total of 27,992 dogs and cats were given free anti-rabies vaccines to ensure safety of other animals or people they live with)," CVD Officer-in-charge Dr. Teodoro Rosales said.

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan expressed his appreciation to the department and its veterinarian members for their efforts in achieving simultaneous vaccination drives.

"Kinikilala ko po ang inyong pagsisikap. Batid ko po na kayo mismo ang bumababa sa mga komunidad, sa bawat barangay upang magbakuna (I appreciate all your efforts. I know that you go to communities in each barangay to vaccinate)," he said.

CVD also added in its accomplishment report that 388 meat inspections were conducted in the city to secure the quality of pork, chicken, and other meat products.

The CVD confiscated around 161.5 kilos of meat.

"Patuloy po tayong magsisikap na magsulong ng mga aktibidad at programa na naglalayong bigyang prayoridad ang pagprotekta at pagmamahal sa ating mga alagang hayop (We will strive to continue promoting activities and programs that aim to prioritize love and safety of our pets)," the mayor added.
