11-year-old boy drowns in overflow canal in Negros city


BACOLOD CITY -- An 11-year-old boy died from drowning at Hacienda Camantero 1, Barangay Guimbala-on, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, Jan. 12.

The name of the minor-victim was withheld.

Staff Master Sgt. Jeffrey Solas, investigator of Silay City Police Station, said it was raining when the victim, along with his three friends went swimming at the overflow canal.

However, the victim was carried away by a strong current inside a culvert. He then fell into a canal.

Solas said the boy’s playmates sought help from the victim’s relatives who rushed him to a hospital but failed to susrive.

The province has lately been experiencing heavy rainfall due to a low pressure area.
