CALASIAO, Pangasinan – Police arrested a 62-year-old reporter for allegedly extorting money from a businessman in Barangay Poblacion East here on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
A report from Col. Jeff Fanged, Pangasinan Provincial Police Office chief, to Brig. Gen. John Chua, director of Police Regional Office 1, identified the suspect as Segundino Delfin Apostol Jr., a resident of Poblacion East, San Nicolas, Pangasinan.
Fanged said Raymund Bautista Angustia, 39, a resident of Barangay Longos here and owner of a fun fair in Barangay Poblacion East, this municipality, filed a complaint against Apostol for demanding protection money for his business.
Apostol allegedly threatened the victim that he will shut down his establishment if he did not comply with his demand.
Angustia sought the help of the police here which set up an entrapment operation. Apostol was arrested after he received the P2,000 marked money from the victim at 8:50 p.m.
Apostol, who also works as a contractor, is a reporter for a tabloid assigned to the province of Pangasinan. Suspect faces a robbery-extortion case.
