President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is due to meet world leaders for meetings on a number of topics, including global nutrition, when he attends the 2023 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland next week.

During a pre-departure briefing on Thursday, Jan. 12, organized by the Presidential Communications Office, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Carlos Sorreta said that the President would talk with leaders on mutual concerns and interests.

He noted that there might not be a chance to schedule formal bilateral meetings because of how busy the world leaders would be.

But Sorreta revealed Marcos’ possible meetings with a number of officials.

“The President will also participate in high-level dialogue sessions with other leaders—the President of South Africa, the Prime Minister of Belgium, the President of the European Commission, and of course, a few more others we still have to confirm,” he said.

One of the main events that Marcos is scheduled to attend is a stakeholder dialogue on global nutrition, which the Foreign Affairs official described as “something very important to us.”

While “food security, of course, (is) very important, but nutrition is also very important.”

“There are parts of the world where food is available but children are not properly nourished. There's more to food security than just having food,” Sorreta explained.

“Quality is very important, especially for children. Nutrition should always go hand-in-hand with security, and the President is scheduled to discuss this issue with other world leaders,” he added.

The Davos trip would be the Chief Executive’s eighth foreign trip since assuming office on June 30, having visited Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, the United States, Belgium, and recently, China.
