LPA, amihan rains to prevail across PH on Friday — PAGASA

The low pressure area (LPA) and northeast monsoon may continue to bring rain showers and thunderstorms across most of the country on Friday, Jan. 13, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its latest bulletin.

PAGASA last spotted the LPA at a distance of 230 kilometers (km) east-southeast of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte or 130 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12.

The weather disturbance is moving slowly towards the country, so its impact may still be felt until the end of the week.

By Friday, PAGASA said that the LPA may bring cloudy skies with “scattered to widespread” rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and Negros Occidental.

Those in these areas were warned against floods or landslides during moderate to intense rains.

PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may also affect Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon, and the rest of Visayas.

Flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains are also possible in these areas.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” may cause cloudy and rainy weather in Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Palawan.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may also have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light amihan rains.

PAGASA said the rest of Mindanao can expect improving weather condition with possible isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

However, the public is advised to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
