Dolly de Leon brings an edge to the Golden Globes with her look

The ‘Triangle of Sadness’ star makes history as the first Filipina to get a Golden Globes nomination

Filipino actors are slowly penetrating Hollywood and leading the pack is actress Dolly de Leon. Since her breakthrough performance in Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness” film, the 53-year-old has been everywhere from Cannes Film Festival to the pages of international magazines. The latest feather in her hat is gaining a Golden Globes best supporting actress - motion picture nomination, making her the first Filipina to get the prestigious nod.

On Jan. 10, Dolly made her Golden Globes debut at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. While the award went to Angela Bassett for the “Black Panther, Wakanda Forever” film, the Filipina actress still made history when she graced the ceremony’s gray carpet.

For the 80th Golden Globe Awards, Dolly wore a sultry custom AZ factory dress. The black gown is made of sustainable materials like faux leather textile and features a built-in corset. The dress was paired with leather gloves and styled with Alessandra Camilla Milano earrings and an Edward Avedis ring. Leading the creation of the dress is Filipino designer and image director of the Paris-based fashion label, Norman Rene De Vera.

“What a privilege,” Norman announces on social media. “Dolly de Leon, thank you for your trust!”

With her daring performance and recent nods, it looks like this will not be the last time we’re going to see Dolly at international award ceremonies.
