DICT Spokesperson Anna Mae Lamentillo, in a press statement on Thursday, Jan. 12, disclosed that Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy is hoping that Filipinos will “avoid last-minute SIM registrations.”

“We want to remind the public to register early because all unregistered SIMs will be deactivated once the registration period ends on April 26, 2023,” Lamentillo stressed.

Currently, only 10.47 percent of the nearly 170 million SIM subscribers in the Philippines have so far registered. The mandatory registration began on Dec. 27, 2022.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Jan. 10, Lamentillo, together with other government agencies, announced that they are eyeing the establishment of registration facilities in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) to further help the public comply with the said registration.
