Region 1 police launches anti-drug campaign involving faith-based leaders
CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, La Union -- The Region 1 police office launched an anti-drug campaign involving faith-based leaders in a simple ceremony held at the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO 1) Grandstand on Tuesday, Jan. 10, here.
The anti-drug campaign dubbed as Battle Against Drugs (BAD) which was founded by Dr. Danilo I. Bornales, aims to put an end to the drug menace that has been hindering the country's growth.

During the launching, BAD Founder and President Bornales and 78 pastors and faith-based leaders signed the Pledge of Commitment of Battle Against Drugs.
PBGen. Carlito M. Gaces, the deputy regional director of PRO 1, who ably represented PRO 1 Regional Director PBGen John C. Chua, led the police and key officials of Region 1 during the signing ceremony.
Chua said in his message that the PNP and the BAD will join hands in exposing the evil effects of illegal drugs in the country through conducting training, symposiums and seminars in different public and private schools down to the grassroots level of the community in collaboration with various government agencies and stakeholders.
“This is another major stride aligned with our all-out efforts in support of the government’s campaign against illegal drugs. Through this, we empower the Police, the Church, and the Community together in these common aspirations,” said Chua.
“Ito’y pagkakataon din upang mas mapalakas pa natin ang ating pagkakaisa sa pagpapatupad sa mga adhikain ng ating gobyerno. Magkapit-bisig po tayo at sama-sama na isulong ang ating laban kontra kriminalidad at iligal na droga (This is a chance for us to strengthen our cooperation in helping the government achieve its goals. Let us unite in this fight against criminality and illegal drugs),” added Chua.
Bornales in his speech quoted Philippine National Police Chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr, and said ‘Life is beautiful. Life is beautiful without Drugs. Kailangan nating bumangon at magtulung-tulong upang gawin ang nararapat upang ang ating mga kabataan ay maakay natin sa tamang landas upang sila ang maging tunay na magiging kinabukasan ng ating bansa.’
The launching was immediately followed by an orientation seminar attended by the said pastors and faith-based leaders within Region 1.
The BAD is a non-government organization (NGO) that conducts drug symposia in different schools and other areas of the community to address the distressing effects of dangerous drugs in the community.
