In a statement issued Wednesday, Jan. 11, DICT announced that information and communications technology (ICT) ministers and government leaders of the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are set to meet in the Philippines this February.

DICT said that the country will be hosting the annual 3rd ASEAN Digital Ministers Meeting (ADGMIN), ASEAN Digital Senior Officials Meeting (ADGSOM), and related meetings with dialogue partners from Feb. 06 to 10.

With the theme, “Synergy Towards a Sustainable Digital Future,” DICT said that the gathering aims to highlight how ASEAN countries can synergize towards building a human-centric approach in the use of ICTs within the region and to forge stronger partnerships in addressing key challenges, both present and future in their respective countries, the region, and the world.

DICT said that the annual conferences will also highlight the collaborative efforts of the ASEAN Member States (AMS) in digitally transforming the region under one vision and one community.

“It shall also serve as a platform to accelerate efforts in enhancing every ASEAN citizen’s digital skills and competency to improve the quality of the workforce in the advent of emerging technologies,” DICT said.

Headed by Secretary Ivan John Uy, DICT is expecting a good turnout of delegates as this would be the first time the ADGMIN and ADGSOM Leaders together with the Secretary General of the ASEAN, as well as other partners and country delegates, shall be physically attending since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The DICT ADGMIN and ADSOM Steering Committee have worked to create a seamless event that will “spotlight the Filipino’s resiliency, creativity and hospitality in the midst of challenging times.”
