Classes in Bacolod, Negros Occidental suspended due to torrential rain


BACOLOD CITY -- Classes here and in some parts of Negros Occidental were suspended on Wednesday, Jan. 11, due to incessant rain spawned by a low pressure area.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) here has been monitoring all 61 barangays as flooding may occur anytime.

All barangay captains were convened to prepare the necessary measures in case of flooding in their respective areas.

Aside from Bacolod, suspension of classes were also imposed in the cities of Silay, Cadiz, Sagay, Escalante, San Carlos, Victorias, La Carlota, Bago, Himamaylan, and Talisay, and the towns of E.B. Magalona, Manapla, Murcia, Valladolid, Pontevedra, Ilog, Isabela, Don Salvador Benedicto, Hinigaran, Binalbagan, La Castellana, Calatrava, Moises Padilla, Pulupandan, and San Enrique.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson also issued a memorandum order suspending the work in government offices from 4 p.m. onwards.

However, hospitals and offices with direct involvement in disaster risk reduction and management shall maintain operations of their respective offices to ensure continuity of the delivery of services to the public.
