Korean singer-composer Don Spike gets suspended sentence for illegal drug use
A Seoul court found Korean singer, composer and producer Don Spike (real name: Kim Min-su) guilty of illegal drug use and possession, and gave him a suspended sentence.
In a decision issued on Jan. 9, the Seoul Northern District Court sentenced Don Spike, 45, to three years in prison suspended for five years for violation of the Korean law Act on Aggravated Punishment for Specific Crimes related to narcotics.

He was also ordered by the court to do 120 hours of community service, attend 80 hours of drug treatment classes and pay a fine of 39.85 million won ($32,000).
"Drug crimes are not easy to detect and the risk of recidivism is high,” the judge who wrote the decision said.
Don Spike was arrested last September. Prosecutors previously wanted to punish him with five years in prison.
According to the prosecution, he was accused of buying 45 million won ($36,300) worth of methamphetamine over nine times through Telegram and other means and possessing 20 grams worth of methamphetamine.
Afterward, it was investigated that he took 0.4 gram of methamphetamine with his acquaintance A in the parking lot of his home in Cheongdam-dong in Seoul on three occasions.
Don Spike was also accused of taking drugs a total of 14 times, including taking methamphetamine with a female receptionist at a hotel in Gangnam-gu.
He was also accused of distributing methamphetamine and ecstasy to Mr. A on five occasions.
Don Spike participated as a songwriter for EXO’s “Miracles in December” and Super Junior’s “Islands.”
