DMW offers 1,000 jobs as staffing of 16 regional, 4 foreign offices begins
The Department of Migrant Workers (DWM) will go on full-blown structuring and staffing of its offices in the regions and abroad following the approval of its P15.8 billion for 2023.
In a press briefing, DMW Secretary Susan "Toots" Ople said they will be setting up 16 regional offices in the country and four Migrant Workers offices abroad.
Two of the DMW offices that will be set up abroad will be in Bangkok, Thailand and in Guam. For the remaining two, several countries are still being reviewed.
In identifying the areas where DMW offices will be set up, Ople said among the considerations that will be looked into are the employment opportunity, the size of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and the vulnerability of OFWs on issues relating to migrant welfare.
For staffing of DMW offices in the Philippines, Ople said they would need more or less 1,000 people to fill up plantilla positions that include those who would be working for DMW social media platforms and for various office works.
"We will be announcing the vacancies soon, we are just clearing these to the Civil Service Commission," said Ople.
She said the job vacancies will be open to both former and current OFWs who want to bring in their experience and expertise on OFW welfare.
The DMW's approved budget based on the General Appropriations Act for 2023 was at P15.8 billion, a total of P4.1 billion is allocated for the Office of the DMW Secretary and the remaining will be for the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Ople said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has already released P566 million to the DMW for the first quarter of 2023.
