Singapore celebrates 58th national day

Ambassador of Singapore to the Philippines Constance See Sin Yuan, welcomed guests who joined the celebration of the 58th Singapore National Day held last Aug. 30, 2023, at the Fairmont Makati.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Onward As One.” 

In her speech, the Ambassador said: “Our National Day is not just a time for celebration of our accomplishments but also a time to cherish the invaluable friendships we have forged along the way.” 

Ambassador Constance See Sin Yuan said: “In the words of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the ‘Singapore Story’ has always been an unlikely one right from the beginning, that is why cooperation, working together with like-minded partners has always been key for Singapore”. 

“In this regard, the Philippines holds a very special place in our hearts,” she said. 

Many Singapore companies see the Philippines as an attractive market making them one of the top investors in the Philippines. 

Next year, the bilateral relations of Philippines and Singapore will reach another milestone as it will celebrate 55 years of diplomatic partnership. Ambassador Constance said they will continue to explore new partnerships in fintech, digitalization, sustainability and foster even stronger people-to-people exchanges. 

She concluded her remarks saying, “On a more personal note, I would like to thank everyone who has welcomed me and my family with open arms upon our arrival two months ago. We are very grateful for the warm hospitality and friendship.” 

Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs Ma. Theresa Lazaro conveyed the warmest congratulations to the people of Singapore, adding that in the 54 years of bilateral relations, both countries continue to adapt to the changing regional global landscape
