Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco will now take the lead in directly supervising and controlling a specialized unit within the agency dedicated to combating human trafficking.
From being under the BI's intelligence division, the agency's Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU) will now directly under Tansingco's office.
The unit was also rebranded as the immigration protection and border enforcement section (I-PROBES).
"The primary goal behind this reorganization is to strengthen the agency's ability to intercept human trafficking and illegal recruitment of victims at the borders," said Tansingco.
He said the strategic move aims to enhance supervision and coordination in addressing trafficking concerns, ultimately ensuring better protection for Filipino citizens departing the country.
Tansingco emphasized that the I-PROBES team will meticulously follow the guidelines set forth by the Department of Justice for departure formalities: "This will ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to safeguard potential victims from falling prey to trafficking networks."
