Still at Alert Level 1: Phivolcs detects 'ongoing' tremor at Taal Volcano
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has detected an ongoing tremor at Taal Volcano since June 2, as the active volcano in Batangas continues to exhibit “low-level unrest.”
According to Phivolcs’ bulletin issued at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, the volcanic tremor has been ongoing since 6:35 a.m. on June 2.
Moreover, Phivolcs observed volcanic smog or “vog” and “upwelling” of hot volcanic fluids in the Taal main crater lake.
It said that the Taal Volcano averaged 9,391 tons per day of sulfur dioxide (SO2) when it was last measured on June 5.

Phivolcs also observed a “voluminous” steam-rich plume emission that rose to a height of 1,800 meters before drifting northwest.
It said that the active volcano is still on Alert Level 1, which means it is experiencing “low-level unrest.”
At Alert Level 1, sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas are possible, threatening areas within the Taal Volcano Island (TVI), Phivolcs said.
It was recommended that entry into TVI—Taal’s permanent danger zone, particularly the vicinity of the main crater and the Daang Kastila fissure, be strictly prohibited.
Similarly, boating in Taal Lake is strictly prohibited.
