Fallen power line in Davao City kills 2, hurts 2 on Good Friday


DAVAO CITY – Two persons were killed and two others were injured after they were electrocuted by a fallen power line in Purok 15, Panacan Relocation, Barangay Panacan, here on Good Friday.

The Police Regional Office (PRO)-11 (Davao region) identified the fatalities as Renante Alcontin, a resident of Purok 15, and Denn Patric P. Rotaquio of SPDA Village in Barangay Panacan.

A witness, Voltaire Cerna, told police he heard an explosion from the primary 8KV line on a concrete post of the Davao Light and Power Company.

A live wire detached and fell on the bystanders.

Two persons were injured – 53-year-old Nonito Humangit and 72-year-old Leonardo Dadulla. They only sustained minor injuries, including first-degree burns, as they managed to run away immediately from the area.

They were taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center here for treatment.

The  Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP)-Panacan Fire Station and Davao Central 911 immediately responded to the incident.

A statement released by DLPC confirmed the incident caused by its fallen power line.

“We regret that this accident happened despite proactive measures to ensure safety. The company is working closely with local government authorities to investigate the cause of this incident,” the DLPC said.

It said they are “reaching out to the family members of the victims to provide them the immediate support they need during these lamentable times.”
