The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the P9.8 million newly paved-road In Pangasinan, which it said, will benefit the farmers and other local residents as it enhances the economic progress in Bayambang town. DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan said the concrete passageway reduces travel time by 30 to 35 minutes that suits well for the local traders and “farmers transporting agricultural products” in the market centers of the province. “The road project costing P9.8 Million is expected to enhance economic activity and reduce travel time from Baranggay Pantol to the nearest business center in Alcala Market” Tan bared. Tan said the project covers the construction of a 208.50-linear-meter long and five meter concrete paved road. The farm-to-market road project was implemented by the DPWH Pangasinan Fourth District Engineering Office. Also, the DPWH Region 1 Office has completed the P24.5 million road expansion project along the Manila North Road (MNR) in San Fernando City, La Union. Tan explained that the widened road will enhance the economic activity in the province as it lowers “transport costs and boosts the city’s core business district’’. The project covers the improvement of the “off-carriage way, construction of drainage canals and installation of solar street lights along the MNR’s 670-meter portion at the commercial area from Governor Ortega Street to Padre Burgos Street.’’ “The road widening will mitigate traffic congestion and ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.”, he added. Tan added that solar LED street lights were also installed to provide adequate lighting and to reduce the occurrence of accidents in the area.
