‘Amihan’ affects Luzon; localized thunderstorms prevail in Visayas, Mindanao

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, March 10 that the northeast monsoon and localized thunderstorms will be the dominant weather systems in the country in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA said Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light rains due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”

Meanwhile, the Visayas and Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned the public against possible flooding or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said that PAGASA continues to monitor the circulation east of Mindanao as it may become a low pressure area (LPA) on Saturday or Sunday, March 11 or 12.

Estareja said the potential LPA could bring rains to Caraga and Davao Region starting on Sunday afternoon.

It may also bring rains to the rest of Mindanao and Eastern Visayas in the next few days, he pointed out.
