DPWH completes Quirino road rehab

The Department of Public Works and Highways has conducted preventive maintenance activities on four sections of the Cordon-Aurora Boundary Road (Junction Dumabato-Aurora Boundary Road) in Quirino to ensure safety and convenience of the traveling public.

Rehabilitation and reconstruction of the damaged paved road in Sections 1, 2, and 4 (Sangbay, Nagtipunan and Dissimungal, Nagtipunan), asphalt overlay in Section 3 (Sangbay, Nagtipunan), and installation of thermoplastic pavement markings are among the engineering scope of works done by the DPWH under the asset preservation program.

The DPWH-Quirino District Engineering Office said the construction of a slope protection structure covered the removal of the eroded portion of the slopes adjacent to Section 4.

A 91-meter mountainside on Section 4 collapsed last October.
More or less 18,000 cubic meters of soil were excavated or removed from the left side of the slope, some of which was filled in on the road slip that occurred at the right portion of the road.

The QDEO has completed the project and opened the road to the public in time for Holy Week and summer season.

"There are lots of tourist spots that the municipality of Nagtipunan has to offer. Through this project, travelers may save at least 10 to 15 minutes in traversing the improved road section, thus, providing them with a smoother and safer roadway facility," officer-in-charge Office of the District Engineer (DE) Arnold A. Sabug said.
