DILG trains over 600 Aurora municipal, barangay personnel in disaster preparedness

Over 600 personnel of municipal and barangay disaster risk reduction and management council personnel in Aurora province underwent disaster preparedness training in a move to boost disaster response in the province.
DILG Central Luzon Regional Director Anthony C. Nuyda the training will enhance the efficiency of the council members considering that the Philippines is known to be vulnerable to tropical storms.
“Ang DILG ay palaging naka-antambay sa ating mga pamahalaang lokal upang magbigay ng anumang klaseng tulong tungo sa kaunlaran ng ating komunidad. Ating hangarin na sa anumang banta ng panganib na tayong lahat ay maging handa, at sa anumang uri ng sakuna, tayo ay maging listo (The DILG is always on hand to provide the local government units (LGUs) with whatever assistance leading to the development of our communities. In any danger of disaster, our goal is for everyone to be ready and be alert in case of any untoward incident,’’ Nuyda said.
The event entitled “Aurora, Handa Ka Ba? Preparedness and Resiliency Enhancement: Promoting Accurate Response during Emergency (PREPARE)” was organized through its Local Governance Resource Center “Tambuli.”
Among the speakers of the said event are experts from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and DILG who shared valuable insights how to capacitate and enable local governments in disaster preparedness and managing local weather disturbances.
Cristina W. Dela Cruz, research and planning head of the PDRRMO, talked about Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System including Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Measures, while Armando D. Avenilla Jr., chief meteorological officer of PAGASA Baler Complex Station, covered Addressing Local Weather Disturbances.
Meanwhile, Carlo P. Salac of the Geologist II, Geohazards and Engineering Geology Section, Geoscience Division in the region tackled the topic on Understanding Geohazards, Flood Hazards, MGB’s Flood Susceptibility Maps, and Flood Mitigating Measures while DILG Aurora Division Chief Florenz Zaira B. Buenconsejo discussed the topic on Operation L!sto Checklist for the mayors and punong barangays.
