Barangay Ginebra can formally secure its place in the top 4 and claim one of the three remaining quarterfinals bonus against a Terrafirma side aiming for a graceful exit in the 2023 PBA Governors' Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Wednesday, March 8.

Tipoff of the match is at 5:45 p.m. with the Kings riding the momentum of a four-game win streak despite a tiring schedule that also saw coach Tim Cone and some of his key players juggle their duties with Ginebra and Gilas Pilipinas.

The game will also come after a crucial match between Magnolia and Blackwater at 3 p.m. with the Hotshots also looking to boost their chance for a top 4 finish against the also-ran Bossing.

Cone expects the Kings to give everything they got against a still dangerous Dyip team which gave Ginebra a run for its money in the past meetings this season.

Cone is particularly wary of Terrafirma main man Juami Tiongson, who has been on a tear despite his team’s losing record, along with import Jordan Williams who, on the other hand, have shown the capability to explode at any given night.

“We are well aware (how dangerous the Dyip are), they have battled us and Juami Tiongson has killed us in all of our games. He got a couple of career highs against us. The import is very capable of playing huge games. He's played big games like 40, 50-point games,” said Cone.

Ginebra took a rare two-day rest prior to the game which, according to Cone, should be enough for guys like Justin Brownlee, Jamie Malonzo and Christian Standhardinger to recharge.

“I think the guys can be ready, they can smell the blood in the water. I think they're ready to go,” said the winningest coach who also expressed his amusement to his players who are finally showing the championship poise they displayed last conference against Bay Area Dragons.

Cone added that it was the 118-88 mauling at the hands of rival Magnolia that served as a wake-up call for the defending champions. Ginebra suffered another loss to San Miguel before the rest of the guys stepped up and picked up the slack from the injuries of Japeth Aguilar and LA Tenorio to author the winning run.

“After we got blown away by Magnolia, we weren't sure where we're gonna be at this point but guys have responded well and just battle as we say, we always say we keep on tracking. We just keep on moving along,” said Cone.

 “That's what we've done. Great character so far for this team and I think it's the championship character that they developed from the last conference that they are trying to bring in again this conference,” he added.
