TACLOBAN CITY - In a bid to become the most progressive city in Eastern Visayas, Ormoc City Megacity Township broke ground on Monday (March 6) at the Brgy. Naungan Mangrove Eco-Park.
The 20-year public-private development project covers development in 150 hectares in Barangays Naungan, Lao, and San Juan, situated beside a 200-hectare protected mangrove area.
Ormoc Megacity is an eco-tourism township which pushes for development without compromising the environment and the ecosystems in it.
The City Government of Ormoc said it opens the door to opportunities for employment and is aligned with the dreams of the city to meet Sustainable Development Goals.
Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez also shared her dream of making Ormoc a Biophilic City that aspires to be richer within its unique and diverse environments and where the planning and design abundantly incorporate the natural world into the daily lives of its residents.
"We will not try to be something we are not. We will just be Ormoc but we will be the best Ormoc that we can be...It is one step towards a big and beautiful dream,” said Mayor Torres-Gomez.
