Metro Manila experiences coldest day this 'amihan' season

The first Monday of the month, March 6, turned out to be extra cold and breezy for Metro Manila as air temperature dropped to 19.5 degrees Celsius (°C), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The lowest temperature reading in Metro Manila was recorded by PAGASA around 5:30 a.m. at its Science Garden monitoring station in Quezon City. This is the region’s coldest day so far since the start of the 2022-2023 northeast monsoon or "amihan" season, surpassing the 20.2°C air temperature on Feb. 17. Based on the PAGASA’s monitoring, the top 10 stations that recorded the lowest air temperature throughout Monday were: Baguio City (11.2℃) Casiguran, Aurora (16.0℃) Basco, Batanes (16.2℃) Tanay, Rizal (17.3℃) Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (18.0℃) Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (18.4℃) Sinait, Ilocos Sur (18.5℃) Abucay, Bataan (19.3℃) Malaybalay, Bukidnon (19.5℃) Science Garden, Quezon City (19.5℃)

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Aurora, and Quezon will continue to experience cloudy and rainy weather due to the amihan. 

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon, except Bicol and Palawan, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light amihan rains.

PAGASA also said that the shear line, or the boundary between cold air from the northeast monsoon and warm air from the easterlies, will bring cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned against possible flooding or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
