CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – The first day of the week-long transport strike in Quezon and Laguna on Monday, March 6, was peaceful, police said. Police in the two provinces were placed on heightened alert status for the strike in protest of the government transport modernization program. About 40 policemen in Quezon were tapped for Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) and Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) to ensure security in areas affected by the transport strike. Police set up 172 checkpoints in the province and deployed 387 mobile patrollers to monitor traffic alongside 24 force multipliers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine Coast Guard. In Laguna, 707 police officers were deployed, 79 checkpoints were established, and about 128 policemen were assigned as Reactionary Standby Support Force and Civil Disturbance Management Contingent. Eight-six government vehicles were deployed to ferry stranded commuters in Laguna.
