Villar RE firm sets completion of 20MWp solar project

Villar-led Prime Asset Ventures Inc. (PAVI), through its subsidiary PAVI Green Renewable Energy Inc., has successfully reached completion milestone on its utility scale 20-megawatt peak (MWp) solar farm project in Orion, Bataan.

According to the company, that will be one of its major take-off points on its cast renewable energy (RE) installations for 1,000MW capacity buildup in the near-term.

PAVI Green Chief Operating Officer Robert Pereja noted that “the newly completed plant will be operational by March 2023 and will contribute greatly to the energy supply in some areas of Luzon, one of the country’s major industrialization and investment hubs.”

Beyond this greenfield facility, the subsequent solar ventures of the company would be the 40.4MW Naga project that has been underpinned by a 20-year power supply agreement (PSA) won through the green capacity auction administered by the government.

Also in the pipeline will be PAVI Green’s 7.0MWp solar rooftop system that will be installed in Tanauan City, Batangas – that upon its commercial operation will potentially offset carbon emissions of roughly 9,811 tons.

Power supply on this year’s summer months had been largely anticipated to be wobbly, hence, any capacity addition – primarily from the solar facilities, will be critical in ensuring that consumers will be spared from service interruptions.

As emphasized by the Villar-led RE company, “the Bataan solar plant is expected to supply up to a maximum 20-megawatt peak (MWp) and will generate enough energy to power up to 5,000 households.”

PAVI Green, which is founded by scion Manuel Paolo Villar, has been accelerating its investments in the RE space – although it has been pursuing development at cautiously-calculated pace compared to the more aggressive stance of competitors in the industry.

Apart from shoring up capacity for Luzon grid, that solar generation will also help in the decarbonization goal advocated by the country; and as ushered in by the government-designed ‘energy transition’ agenda.

Atty TJ Mendoza, head of Infrastructure and Projects of PAVI, added that the Bataan solar farm installation, in tandem with the firm’s energization projects, would concretize “PAVI’s commitment to Filipinos in contributing to the energy and electrification needs of the country.”

It is worth noting that the company has been catering both to RE-anchored provision of electricity services to on-grid and off-grid domains – the second of which has more critical energy access challenges at this time.
