LAGUNA – One of the persons of interest tagged in the death of hazing victim John Matthew Salilig died in an alleged suicide on Feb. 28, the same day authorities found Salilig’s body in a shallow grave in Imus, Cavite.

Biñan City Police Station (CPS) acting chief Lt. Col. Virgilio M. Jopia confirmed the information with the Manila Bulletin on Friday, March 3.

Jopia says the 28-year-old deceased person of interest was a member of Tau Gamma Phi fraternity but was not a student.

On March 2, six suspects involved in the hazing case underwent inquest proceedings for violating the Anti-Hazing Law.

On the same day, another suspect who allegedly participated in burying Salilig surrendered to Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla and Cavite Police Provincial Office.

Police Regional Office 4-A chief Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said nine more members of the fraternity were included as respondents in the hazing case.

Nartatez appealed to witnesses to coordinate with the police and help build an airtight case.
