Marcos taps telecom CEO as PH special envoy to China for trade, investment, tourism


President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. appointed Maynard Ngu, the man behind the local cellphone brand Cherry Mobile, as the country's Special Envoy to the People’s Republic of China for Trade, Investment and Tourism.

Marcos administered the oath-taking ceremony of Ngu in Malacañang on Friday, March 3.

Ngu is the chief executive officer (CEO) of Cosmic Technologies Incorporated, the company behind local cellphone giant Cherry Mobile.

As Special Envoy for Trade, Investment and Tourism, Ngu is responsible for the promotion of international trade and investment between the Philippines and China.

He will also initiate discussions with stakeholders in business to maximize substantial trade and other economic opportunities.
