P4-M fake cigarettes seized in Laguna

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Smuggled fake cigarettes valued at about P4 million were seized from a Chinese national in an entrapment operation Barangay Del Remedios in San Pablo City, Laguna, on Wednesday, March 1. The Police Regional Office 4-A identified the suspect as Xinglong Zhang, 34. Xinglong was apprehended by the Regional Intelligence Division-Regional Special Operation Unit 4-A after he sold boxes of fake cigarettes worth P50,000 to a poseur-buyer. Police recovered 184 boxes of assorted cigarette brands with an estimated value of P3,741,000 and P205,000 cash. Suspect faces charges of violating Article 189 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC), Republic Act 7394, Consumer Act of the Philippines; RA 8293, the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, and RA 1937, the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines.
