Troops ready to secure country to ensure economic prosperity – military official
A high-ranking official of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) assured President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, March 1, that government troops are prepared to secure the country from internal and external threats so that the economy will prosper under his administration.
Lt. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, commander of the Visayas Command (VisCom), expressed appreciation to the Commander-in-Chief for recognizing their efforts to sustain peace and order and ensure the well-being of the people in Visayas.
“With the encouragement of the President, VISCOM will continue to carry out its mission to achieve maximum effectiveness in securing the Visayas region against internal or external threats,” Arevalo said.
This came after Marcos visited the VisCom Headquarters at Brig. Gen. Benito N. Ebuen Air Base in Mactan, Cebu on Monday, Feb. 27.
During his address before the men and women of the VisCom, Marcos emphasized the importance of peace as the foundation of all the programs and projects under his administration, including his foreign policy.
“Our foreign policy is guided by a commitment to peace and guided by the national interest. So peace is the most important,” Marcos said in a traditional “Talk to the Troops.”
After the talk, Marcos held a meeting with the AFP commanders in the region where he was accompanied by Department of National Defense Officer in Charge (DND-OIC) Senior Undersecretary Carlito Galvez Jr. and AFP Chief of Staff General Andres Centino.
The DND and the Cebu provincial government also signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the return of 19 additional lots occupied by the troops at Camp Lapulapu to Cebu province as they relocate to a new site.
Under the MOA, the DND will return the titles of 18 lots occupied by the AFP to Cebu province while another title will be turned over “upon completion of the replication and relocation of DND-AFP affected structures, facilities, and utilities.”
Meanwhile, the Cebu provincial government will allocate funds for the construction of facilities and infrastructure of VisCom and its displaced units to their new location site.
