President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. welcomed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Malacañang Palace on Wednesday afternoon, March 1, for the latter's maiden official visit in Manila.
Marcos together with First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and high-ranking government officials welcomed Anwar and his delegation at the Palace grounds at 4 p.m.
Anwar, who is in the country for a two-day visit, was accorded with arrival honors before he was introduced by the President to his Cabinet members.
Shortly after the arrival honors, Marcos and Anwar proceeded to the Palace's Reception Hall for the signing of the guestbook. A closed-door meeting was scheduled between the two leaders.
Marcos and the Malaysian Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting to discuss areas of mutual concerns such as political, security, economic cooperation, and people-to-people ties. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues.
After the bilateral meeting, the two leaders will hold a joint press briefing and a leader's tete-a-tete. They will cap the day off with an official dinner at Malacañang's Ceremonial Hall.
Anwar is the first head of state to visit the country under the current administration.
