Food delivery rider dies in collision with dump truck in Baguio City highway

BAGUIO CITY – A food delivery rider died after his miscalculated attempt to overtake a 10-wheeler dump truck resulted in an accident along Loakan road here on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

The rider was identified as Francis Opiña Mangaoang, 30, and resident of Everlasting Street, Baguio City.

The Traffic Management Unit of the Baguio City Police Office said the accident happened at around 11:20 in the morning.

Based on the investigation, Mangaoang got into the highway’s opposite lane to overtake a dump truck. While there, the food delivery rider tried to evade an incoming vehicle by returning to his lane, but he allegedly miscalculated his maneuver and hit the rear wheel of the dump truck. Worse, the rider was dragged by the dump truck several meters away.

The dump truck was going to the Loakan proper. Its driver, Benjamin Catino Balbines Jr, 43, of Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet, is currently in police custody for investigation.
